Man Arrested on Suspicion of Attempted Murder After Stabbing Near Hardy Monument

DORSET — A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a reported stabbing near the Hardy Monument, a well-known beauty spot close to Dorchester.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 pm on Saturday, May 3. Dorset Police said they received a report that a man in his 30s had been assaulted by another man, known to him, in the area surrounding the monument.

The victim was taken to the hospital with cuts and a suspected stab wound. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Following what police described as “fast-paced enquiries,” a man in his 20s was arrested later that day in the Weymouth area. He has since been released on police bail while detectives continue their investigation.

Authorities are now appealing for witnesses, particularly two members of the public who are believed to have helped the injured man at the scene.

“We have been conducting extensive enquiries into this matter and have arrested a suspect,” said Detective Constable Neil Hooker of Dorset County CID.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident and may be able to assist our enquiries to please contact us. In particular, I understand two members of the public came to the aid of the victim, and I would be keen for these individuals to please make themselves known to us, so we can take their accounts.”
