Asda to End Blue Light Card Discount Scheme from 27 May 2025
On Tuesday 13th May, Asda announced that its partnership with Blue Light Card will officially come to an end on Tuesday 27th May 2025, marking the conclusion of a collaboration that has provided emergency workers with valuable in-store discounts since the pandemic.
What Is the Blue Light Card?
The Blue Light Card is a discount service that offers exclusive savings to workers in the emergency services, NHS, social care sector, and armed forces. Members benefit from reduced prices on a wide array of products and services, including:
- Clothing and fashion
- Holidays and travel insurance
- Car purchases and insurance
- Dining out and entertainment venues
With over 15,000 discounts available across thousands of retailers, restaurants, and online shops, the Blue Light Card has become a go-to tool for frontline workers looking to stretch their budgets further.
Why Is Asda Ending the Partnership?
In a statement emailed to Blue Light Card holders, Asda explained the decision:
“We launched our partnership with Blue Light Card during the pandemic to provide additional support for emergency workers. Our focus now is on providing all our customers with outstanding value every time they visit our stores or shop with us online.”
This reflects a shift in Asda’s pricing strategy. Instead of targeted discounts for specific groups, the retailer is now emphasizing everyday low pricing for all customers.
Blue Light Card also addressed the change in an email to its members:
“Asda is making broad changes to its strategy and overall approach to value and pricing for its customers, and because of this change in strategy, Asda’s discount for Blue Light Card holders is ending two weeks from now, on Tuesday, 27th May.”
“This change is one of several adjustments Asda is making across its business as it implements its new everyday pricing approach.”
What Now for Blue Light Card Members?
Blue Light Card holders can still enjoy the current Asda discount up until Tuesday 27th May. After that, the offer will no longer be valid in-store or online.
However, alternative supermarket deals and offers are still available through the Blue Light Card’s Voucher Shop, offering continued opportunities for members to save money at other participating retailers.
