Community Rallies Behind Dismissed Officer: Nearly £10,000 Raised for Lorne Castle Family

A GoFundMe campaign titled “Support for Lorne & the Castle Family” has raised over £9,000 in donations, reflecting widespread public backing for former Dorset Police officer Lorne Castle following his dismissal in May 2025.

The fundraiser, organised by retired T/Chief Inspector Christopher Amey, aims to provide financial assistance to Castle and his family during this challenging period. Amey, who served in both the Metropolitan Police and Dorset Police for a combined 30 years, expressed his dismay over Castle’s dismissal, highlighting Castle’s decade-long service as both a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) and Police Constable in Dorset.

Castle’s career was marked by numerous commendations. In 2021, he received the Michael Stannard Community Officer of the Year award for his efforts in diverting a young individual from anti-social behaviour and for disrupting a significant drug operation linked to organised crime. Additionally, he was recognised for acts of bravery, including rescuing individuals from drowning, for which he received the highest accolade from the Humane Society.

The incident leading to Castle’s dismissal occurred in January 2024, when he responded to a call involving a violent masked offender. During the arrest, Castle used force to detain the suspect, who had assaulted two members of the public. Despite the challenging circumstances, Castle’s actions were deemed misconduct, resulting in his dismissal without notice.

Amey criticised the decision, stating that Castle’s actions were in line with his duties and that the dismissal was unjust. He emphasised Castle’s dedication, noting that he responded to the call at the end of a 10-hour shift when no other officers volunteered.(X (formerly Twitter))

The fundraiser has seen contributions from over 400 donors, reflecting the community’s support for Castle. Amey hopes that the funds raised will assist Castle and his family as they navigate this difficult time. (GoFundMe)
