Two asylum seekers residing on the Bibby Stockholm barge have been apprehended by the police on suspicion of a reported sexual assault on a woman at the Kika Beach Bar in Weymouth, Dorset, during the early hours of December 10. The individuals, aged 24 and 27, were taken into custody.
Since its opening in August, the Bibby Stockholm barge has hosted numerous asylum seekers awaiting the processing of their claims. These individuals are permitted to explore the local area, including Weymouth town centre, receiving a weekly allowance of £40.
In a separate incident, an asylum seeker on the Bibby Stockholm is reported to have taken his own life around 6:22 am on December 12. Referred to as “Adam,” a resident on the barge mentioned that the deceased individual’s identity is unknown, speculating possible connections to conflicts with security personnel and management. Others reported that the man had reportedly hanged himself in the communal bathroom on the barge.
